Kolkata Metro: East-West Corridor to Face Service Disruptions for CBTC System Testing

Delays in the Kolkata Metro’s East-West corridor were caused by cave-ins at Bowbazar during tunneling in 2019 and subsequent years. To test the new Communication-based Train Control (CBTC) system, services will be suspended in two spells this month. The CBTC system will allow trains to run smoothly along the entire corridor from Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector 5. Due to previous cave-ins, currently, services are only available in disjointed sections. The testing will help ensure the safe and efficient operation of the metro system in Kolkata.
