The biggest Airbus Beluga series aircraft, the Beluga XL, made its first landing at Kolkata Airport after arriving from Bahrain International Airport. This upgraded version of the Beluga ST was greeted with a grand water salute, marking a special occasion for the airport. The Beluga XL is designed to carry oversized cargo, such as aircraft components like wings and fuselages. The aircraft made a stop in Kolkata for crew rest, flight duty time limitations, and refueling, as it is the only airport in Eastern India equipped to handle this type of aircraft. The Beluga XL will be refueled before its departure, and is currently parked at J1 bay at the airport.
