The Department of Consumer Affairs (DoCA) has launched a nationwide drive to combat the black market of low-quality helmets in the country. The decision comes as a response to the danger these substandard helmets pose to riders’ lives. Manufacturers and retailers have been instructed to stop selling non-compliant products, and the government is taking strict actions against violators. It is now mandatory to sell helmets that comply with the BIS standard, and those caught using or selling uncertified helmets could face imprisonment or hefty fines. The government is working to educate the public about the importance of using safe and quality helmets for road safety.
