BMW and Toyota have announced a collaboration to develop Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs) or hydrogen-powered cars. The first hydrogen car from BMW is expected to arrive in 2028 and may be the next-gen iX5 SUV. Toyota has been selling the Mirai hydrogen car for about a decade and will share its knowledge with BMW to accelerate hydrogen vehicle development. The new BMW iX5 is likely to feature the FCEV powertrain co-developed with Toyota. This partnership aims to address the limitations of EVs and battery systems, with hydrogen technology being seen as the missing piece in the electric mobility puzzle.
