FADA seeks legislative safeguards to prevent auto OEMs exiting India abruptly

Since 2017, several automotive OEMs like Ford, General Motors, and Harley Davidson have stopped sales operations in India, leading to layoffs at dealerships and causing distress among customers. The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) is seeking legislative safeguards to prevent such abrupt exits in the future to protect the interests of dealers and employees. FADA President C S Vigneshwar has requested government support in implementing the Central Motor Vehicles Rules and reclassifying auto dealer workshops for a more sustainable future. The exits have caused major disruptions in the industry, and FADA is focused on securing the future of dealerships through policy priorities like the Retail Protection Act and the Model Dealer Agreement.
