The European Union has implemented new tariffs of up to 45.3% on Chinese-built electric vehicles, causing division within the bloc and prompting retaliation from Beijing. Ten EU members supported the tariffs, while five opposed them and 12 abstained. China has instructed its automakers to halt big investments in European countries that support the tariffs, further complicating the situation. Chinese automakers, including BYD, SAIC, and Geely, were advised to pause heavy asset investment plans in countries that backed the tariffs. The directive also urged caution in investment discussions with European governments and emphasized collective talks. This move follows a similar warning in July regarding investments in other regions.
