China, EU trade officials hold last-ditch talks over EV tariffs



The Chinese Commerce Minister is in Europe trying to prevent tariffs on electric cars before the looming deadline. The EU is considering imposing tariffs of up to 50% on Chinese-made EVs. China is trying to convince EU nations to vote against the tariffs to protect jobs and economic output in the auto industry. The EU wants any solution to comply with WTO rules and address China’s subsidies. Spain and Germany have expressed opposition to the tariffs, while Italy supports them. The situation is tense, with China offering increased investment while also threatening tariffs on other products. The goal is to find a political solution and avoid a trade conflict.
