The United States has charged an Iranian man, Farhad Shakeri, in connection with an alleged plot ordered by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps to assassinate President-elect Donald Trump. Shakeri, described as an IRGC asset residing in Tehran, was tasked with providing a plan to kill Trump but did not follow through. Two New York residents who met Shakeri in prison, Carlisle Rivera and Jonathan Loadholt, have also been charged for helping with the plot. The target was not identified but matched the description of Masih Alinejad, a journalist critical of Iran’s government. Rivera and Loadholt have been ordered detained pending trial.
