Qatar, a key mediator between Hamas and Israel, is facing pressure from the U.S. to achieve a deal before the Biden administration leaves office. Hamas was previously asked to leave Qatar for Turkey, but that decision was reversed after talks failed. Qatar has defended its role as a mediator, stating it was requested by the U.S. in 2012. Hamas’ leadership is divided between a military wing in Gaza and a political bureau in Qatar. It is unclear where Hamas will relocate, but Iran might be an option.
