Thiruvananthapuram city police commissioner G Sparjan Kumar submitted a report to the state police chief stating that they could not confirm if Kerala IAS officer K Gopalakrishnan’s phone was hacked. This conclusion was based on the cyber forensics team’s findings that the phone had been formatted, making it difficult to determine if it was hacked. The police did not receive any useful information from Google or WhatsApp regarding any third-party apps or malware. Gopalakrishnan had filed a complaint after a controversy arose over religion-based WhatsApp groups created using his number. The police are now awaiting direction from the state government to proceed with further investigation.
