Congress, BJP Spar Over JPC Chairman Jagdambika Pal’s Meeting With Karnataka Farmers Over Waqf Row

Jagdambika Pal, the Chairman of the Joint Committee of Parliament on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, met with farmers in Karnataka regarding their lands being claimed by the State Waqf Board. He received over 2,000 petitions from aggrieved farmers who fear losing their livelihoods. The meeting has sparked a political controversy between the ruling Congress and the Opposition BJP, with accusations of political motives. Pal and BJP MP Tejasvi Surya are working to address the farmers’ concerns and present them to the JPC. The issue involves alleged claims of temples and schools by the Waqf Board, impacting rural communities and heritage sites. The JPC is conducting field visits and hearings across India to address stakeholder concerns.
