Opposition MPs who are part of the Joint Parliamentary Committee for the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 have decided to boycott a committee tour across five states to meet stakeholders. This decision was made after the Chairman, Jagdambika Pal, attended a protest organized by the BJP in Karnataka over charges against the Congress party regarding Waqf properties in the state. Opposition MPs believe this is a conflict of interest and plan to write to the Lok Sabha Speaker about the Chairman’s conduct. The committee tour aims to gather more details on the bill and meet with state councils and representatives from various departments in the states.
