The Gauhati High Court has asked the Central and state governments to explain the cancellation of the Garbhanga Wildlife Sanctuary’s recognition in response to a PIL filed by activist Subrat Talukdar. The sanctuary, located near Guwahati, had its status revoked by the government through a cabinet decision. Talukdar challenged this decision through the PIL, prompting the court to issue notices to relevant authorities for a response within 22 days. The court has also requested the Assam government to provide an affidavit detailing the reasons for the cancellation of the sanctuary’s recognition.
