The CPM in Kannur has proposed to take disciplinary action against former District Panchayat president PP Divya for her involvement in the death of former Additional District Magistrate Naveen Babu. The district committee has decided to remove Divya from all elected party posts and have her continue as a branch member under the local committee. This decision comes after three weeks of assessing Divya’s actions and is seen as a way for the party to do damage control before the upcoming bypolls. Initially, the district committee supported Divya, but changed their stance after pressure from the Pathanamthitta CPM unit and her legal issues.
