The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, ruled that the Kolkata trial court judge has the authority to request further investigation if needed after reviewing evidence. The Court reviewed the CBI’s status report on the case at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital and refrained from making observations, stating that the investigation is ongoing. Charges against the prime accused were framed on November 4, with a trial scheduled to begin on November 11. The National Task Force presented a protocol report on health professional safety, which the Court directed to be circulated among all states and union territories. The Court also questioned the West Bengal government on its recruitment and appointment of civic volunteers, seeking comprehensive data on the process.
