Why CPM & Congress keen on 10% swing votes in Chelakkara since 2016

In Chelakkara, veteran CPM leader KS Radhakrishnan holds a stronghold, having been elected five times with strong public support. The upcoming byelection is a matter of prestige for both the CPM-led LDF and the Congress-led UDF. The UDF is pinning its hopes on firebrand leader Ramya Haridas to reclaim the seat. With 211,211 registered voters, the election outcome remains unpredictable. The Congress is banking on Haridas’ charm to win back the constituency from the CPM.
