The upcoming by-poll for the Dholai Legislative Assembly Constituency has sparked a heated political battle between the BJP and Congress, with allegations about the BJP candidate’s nationality causing controversy. BJP leader Amiya Kanti Das claimed that Nihar Ranjan Das is a Bangladesh national, which was later echoed by the Congress. However, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma dismissed these claims as baseless, citing Das’ inclusion in the National Register of Citizens. Sarma accused the Congress of trying to stir unrest among the Hindu Bengali population in Barak Valley. Despite the BJP’s confident predictions of victory, the Congress refuted allegations that they started the controversy, focusing instead on the lack of development in Dholai. The political showdown continues as the by-poll approaches.
