RTO to probe operator’s failure to provide accommodation to students

The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has taken action regarding an incident where 135 students were not provided accommodation by a tour operator during a picnic to Kodaikanal. The Commission has ordered the Transport Commissioner to have the Regional Transport Officer investigate the matter and submit a report within three weeks. The RTO will also determine if the tour operator should face penalties such as cancellation of permits. The students had to spend the night in the bus and were later taken to Ooty due to the lack of accommodation. The Commission’s actions were prompted by newspaper reports on the incident.
