A 63-year-old man in Thiruvananthapuram has been sentenced to double life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 60,000 for sexually abusing his partner’s nine-year-old granddaughter. This comes after he was already sentenced last week for assaulting her younger sibling, a six-year-old granddaughter. The assaults occurred between 2020 and 2021 after the victims’ parents abandoned them. The girls suffered severe physical injuries, and their cries for help went unheard as the doors were closed. The case came to light when a neighbor witnessed the abuse and informed the police. Both victims are now in a care home. Special Public Prosecutor and advocates played a crucial role in the prosecution, while officers conducted a thorough investigation.
