PAP ayacutdars in tail-end Kangayam-Vellakoil belt pitch for restoration of five rounds of wetting

Farmers in the Vellakoil-Kangayam area are requesting the revival of five rounds of wetting, which used to be a common practice in the past. The third round is currently underway, with the Water Resources Department releasing water in phases over a 120-day period. The farmers believe that a fifth wetting would help recharge groundwater and support irrigation and livestock farming. However, there are concerns about transmission losses and water shortage in the canals. Despite calls for a fifth wetting in late December or early January, officials maintain that the current water distribution plan is sufficient and a fifth wetting is not feasible at this time.
