The Indian High Commission in Ottawa strongly condemned the violent disruptions outside a Hindu temple in Brampton, near Toronto, calling them “deeply disappointing”. Despite the disturbances, consular staff successfully issued over 1,000 life certificates to Indian and Canadian nationals at a co-organised event with the Hindu Sabha Mandir. Similar disruptions were reported at camps in Vancouver and Surrey, prompting concerns for the safety of attendees and staff. The High Commission warned that future consular camps in Canada will only proceed if adequate security measures are ensured by local authorities. Tensions between India and Canada have increased following allegations from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau linking New Delhi to the killing of a Khalistani activist in 2023, which India has strongly denied.
