San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman won his fifth Gold Glove, and Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. was among 14 first-time winners of baseball’s most famous fielding honor. Cleveland second baseman Andrés Giménez and left fielder Steven Kwan won for the third consecutive year along with other players. Chapman’s win in the National League was especially significant, as he had previously won three Gold Gloves with Oakland and one with Toronto. Overall, six teams had two Gold Glove winners each. The winners earned bonuses, with Bregman receiving the highest amount of $50,000. Voting for the awards was conducted among managers and coaches, with a defensive index playing a role in the selection process.
