National capital’s PM 2.5 Levels 13% higher than previous Diwali, reports suggest

A recent report by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) found that PM2.5 levels decreased by 4% compared to last year’s Diwali. However, the PM2.5 levels hit a peak on Diwali night, 13% higher than in previous years. The Center for Science and Environment (CSE) also reported higher nitrogen dioxide levels, indicating heavy traffic congestion. Despite a quick build-up of pollution on Diwali night, there was also quicker dissipation the following day. The report highlighted the impact of warm atmospheric conditions and increased farm fires on Delhi’s air quality. Overall, the findings suggest ongoing challenges in managing air pollution during festive seasons.
