The Calicut International Airport, one of the busiest in India, has been without a full-time director since August 31. This absence is causing concerns about the progress of important development work, particularly the expansion of the runway end safety area (RESA) which is crucial for the airport’s operation. The expansion project requires clearances from various agencies and a committed officer to push it forward. The tragic crash of Air India Express Flight 1344 in 2020 highlighted the urgent need for RESA expansion. The appointment of a full-time director is necessary to ensure the safety and development of the airport.
