Four individuals have been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of C. Ashraf, a CPI(M) worker from Kerala. The court also ordered them to pay a fine of ₹50,000 each. The charges were filed against eight individuals associated with the BJP and the RSS. The prosecution presented evidence that Ashraf was attacked due to political enmity while selling fish. The court heard from 26 witnesses during the trial. Two of the accused had died prior to the trial. Two others were acquitted of all charges. The investigation was overseen by Koothuparamba Circle Inspector K.V. Venugopalan.
