Jorhat Police probe ULFA-I’s alleged crypto-based extortion letter; outfit denies

The banned militant group ULFA-I is reportedly using cryptocurrency for extortion in Jorhat, demanding ₹3 lakh donations from local businessmen. Letters signed by someone claiming to be a captain of the outfit instruct recipients to pay via Ethereum by a certain date. Jorhat police have taken action, but ULFA-I denies involvement and warns against cooperating with the alleged conman. The group emphasizes that there is no member named Ashim Asom within their ranks and that the extortion letters did not come from them. Business owners are urged not to fall victim to such scams.
