The government of India has confirmed that the next census data will be available in 2026, with the process set to begin in 2025. Despite calls from some political parties for a caste census, the government has no plans to allow it at the moment. The census is crucial for policy formulation and resource distribution, with the last one being conducted in 2011. The data from 2011 showed India’s population at 121.1 crore, with Uttar Pradesh being the most populous state. The literacy rate was at 74%, with Hindus making up 79.8% of the population. The government will also begin the process of delimitation after the census data is published, which will lead to more elected representatives in the future.
