Checking pollution levels through hyperlocal data



SRM Institute of Science and Technology at Kattankulathur regularly tests the ambient air quality on its campus using high volume samplers and a micro pulse lidar. The campus has met the pollution control board’s limits for particulate content such as PM 2.5, PM 10, ozone, sulphur dioxide, and carbon monoxide. The U.S. Consulate General’s air pollution monitor covers the Gopalapuram area and provides data through the NowCast algorithm. While air quality monitoring can increase environmental awareness, not many organizations have invested in it. The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board mandates industries to put up air quality monitoring stations, but they do not recognize sensor-based data reading.
