Former political consultant Thomas Mills from North Carolina believes that the Democratic Party needs to step up its game in the battleground state to compete with Republicans before Election Day. He identified early voting and low African American voter turnout as key issues that Democrats need to address quickly. Republicans are currently leading in early voting, which is a shift from previous cycles, and African American voter turnout is lower than expected. Mills believes that Democrats have time to increase turnout among African American voters, but they need to identify and address the issues causing the low turnout. Additionally, Mills noted that Hurricane Helene may have some impact on voter turnout in the state, but it won’t significantly affect either party.
