Tharoor implores students to see pleasure in reading

Shashi Tharoor, an author and Congress MP, recently opened the renovated library at St. Joseph’s College in Devagiri, urging students to see books as more than just tools for coursework. He emphasized the importance of reading to let ideas ferment in the mind, comparing it to the process of a toddy tapper wielding his hatchet to tap into the exhilaration within. Tharoor highlighted the role of libraries as storehouses of ignition, containing ideas, knowledge, and wisdom that can spark new thoughts, innovation, and entrepreneurship. He stressed the indispensability of reading for acquiring new words and information, encouraging students to see books as doors to the future and sources of pleasure and joy.
