One instance highlighted was Putin pressuring Musk to withhold SpaceX’s Starlink service from Taiwan at China’s request. This has raised concerns among U.S. officials, including NASA administrator Bill Nelson, who emphasized the need for investigation. Musk’s interactions with Putin, his involvement in politics, and decisions impacting national security have come under scrutiny. Musk’s history of business dealings with Russia, including attempts to buy missiles, has also been highlighted. Rusal, a company founded by Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska, was once sanctioned by the US Treasury but those sanctions were lifted under Trump in 2019. If Trump wins, he has promised Elon Musk a role in a government efficiency commission, giving Musk influence over federal agencies. Trump envisions the commission conducting a financial and performance audit of the entire federal government. Trump has stated that Musk would lead the commission without having to leave his companies.
