The State GST Department has introduced biometric-based Aadhaar authentication and document verification for GST registration to prevent tax fraud. This measure aims to stop the misuse of government-issued identification documents like Aadhaar and PAN cards for fraudulent activities. Incidents of fake GST registrations have been detected in Kerala, prompting the implementation of these security measures. The use of biometric Aadhaar authentication has led to a decrease in fraudulent activities in states like Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat. Candidates are selected for Aadhaar authentication based on data analysis and risk parameters. The GST council recommended the phased introduction of biometric-based Aadhaar authentication for GST registrations in June. The authentication process must be completed within 15 days of submitting the GST REG-01 application on the common portal.
