Film producer’s land-grabbing case takes curious turns

Film producer B. Sivaramakrishna was re-arrested by the Osmania University police in Hyderabad due to a criminal case involving an alleged attempt to grab government land worth thousands of crore rupees. This raised concerns as it is uncommon for an accused to be re-arrested. The producer had initially been arrested on October 17 and was granted conditional bail, which was later cancelled due to alleged violation of bail conditions. The police invoked various sections of the Indian Penal Code in the case, but some legal experts questioned their choice of sections. The police decided to keep the producer in judicial custody until the trial is complete. The timing of the re-arrest coincided with the transfer of the magistrate who had granted bail.
