U.K. to invest ₹205 crore to help fight plastic pollution in West Bengal

British International Investment (BII) has invested ₹205 crore to help fight plastic pollution in West Bengal. The investment will support Magpet Polymers in expanding its PET-bottle recycling facility in Kharagpur. The plant will create over 300 jobs and involve over 10,000 waste-pickers in the region. Using European technology, the facility will recycle 45,000 tonnes of PET bottles annually. This investment is part of BII’s commitment to climate finance and sustainability. It will help reduce pollution, create green jobs, and positively impact the lives of waste-pickers. The founder of Magpet highlighted the importance of reducing dependence on virgin plastic through recycling initiatives.
