Hezbollah confirmed that Hashem Safieddine, a top official expected to succeed Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike. Safieddine had been running Hezbollah alongside Naim Qassem and was expected to be formally elected as the next secretary general. He played a key role in speaking for Hezbollah during hostilities with Israel. His death further weakens the group’s leadership as Israeli strikes continue in Hezbollah strongholds.
