‘Escaped By God’s Grace’: JPC Chief Jagdambika Pal Says Kalyan Banerjee’s Actions Undemocratic, Anarchist

JPC Chairman Jagdambika Pal accused TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee of throwing broken glass at him during a meeting on the Waqf Amendment Bill, calling it undemocratic and anarchist. Banerjee has been suspended for one day for his behavior. Pal condemned the violence, saying dissent should be expressed through votes, not violence. He expressed disappointment that the JPC proceedings were politicized. The incident occurred during a confrontation between Banerjee and BJP MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay. The suspension was approved by a majority vote, though some felt it was a lenient punishment. The meeting was stopped, and both sides accused each other of using abusive language.
