In recent interviews, former White House chief of staff John Kelly said that former President Donald Trump meets the definition of a fascist, citing his authoritarian tendencies and admiration for dictators. Kelly also mentioned that Trump had spoken positively about Adolf Hitler. Trump’s campaign spokesperson denied these claims, calling them debunked stories. Democrats have compared some of Trump’s rhetoric to Hitler’s, including a remark about immigrants “poisoning the blood of our country.” Trump has denied reading Hitler’s manifesto. The Atlantic reported that Trump privately admired Hitler’s generals, a claim that Trump’s spokesperson also denied. Kelly said he would remind Trump that U.S. generals’ loyalty was to the Constitution and the rule of law.
