BRICS summit: Modi to hold talks with Xi after breakthrough in Eastern Ladakh | World News

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping at the BRICS summit in Russia, their first meeting since the 2020 Galwan Valley clash. This comes after an agreement to end the standoff in Eastern Ladakh. Modi also met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, offering assistance for peace in Ukraine. The BRICS alliance is expanding rapidly, with countries like Iran, Egypt, and the UAE showing interest. The summit is seen as a way for Russia to showcase support from the Global South amid tensions with the West and to expand economic ties. Proposed projects include a new payment system to bypass Western sanctions. Putin will hold bilateral meetings with several leaders during the summit.
