An Ahmedabad lawyer named Morris Christian was arrested for running a fake arbitration tribunal in Gandhinagar without a valid license to practice law. He passed fraudulent orders in favor of claimants to usurp land worth over Rs 100 crore. Morris had been involved in illegal activities for five years, facing contempt proceedings and having his decrees stayed by the Gujarat high court. Despite this, he continued his activities until a civil court ordered his arrest. The court noted that Morris’s primary intention was to seize government land and ordered an FIR against him for cheating and criminal conspiracy.
