Sandeep Naik, the former Navi Mumbai BJP chief, has decided to rebel against the party after being denied a ticket. Despite his father’s advice to stick to party policies, he has joined NCP (SP) to contest the assembly elections from Belapur. His decision was supported by hundreds of followers and former corporators. This move has caused tension with BJP candidate Manda Mhatre, who is confident in her ability to win for the third time. Sandeep’s father, Ganesh Naik, has kicked off his own campaign with his elder son in a different constituency, stating that he advised Sandeep not to resign from the BJP. Sandeep cited Mhatre’s repeated humiliation of BJP functionaries as the reason for his switch to NCP (SP).
