Blankets in AC Trains are Washed Only Once a Month, Reveals RTI Reply from Railways

Passengers in AC coaches are provided with sheets, pillows, and blankets neatly packaged in brown envelopes. While sheets and pillow covers are washed after every use, blankets are only laundered once a month or sometimes twice. This raises concerns about the cleanliness of the bedding passengers rely on during their journeys. The cost of this bedding service is included in the ticket price, but additional services are available for a fee on certain trains. Post-journey procedures reveal that blankets are only sent for cleaning if visibly dirty or emitting an odor, with some not being washed for up to six months according to a report from the Comptroller and Auditor General in 2017.
