High cataract rate among elderly in Mucherla, Meerkhanpet of Rangareddy district, says survey

A recent health survey conducted by the Hyderabad-based NGO Helping Hand Foundation revealed alarming rates of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and eye health issues in rural villages of Rangareddy district. The survey found a high prevalence of cataract among the elderly population in Mucherla and Meerkhanpet. The survey also highlighted inefficiencies in the Kanti Velugu programme initiated by the previous government. In response, HHF is offering free treatment including cataract surgeries and spectacles to those in need. So far, 10 cataract surgeries have been performed with more scheduled in the coming weeks.
