The Kerala State Pollution Control Board is taking action against four bonemeal units in the Edayar industrial area for violating pollution control norms. The board found that the units were not properly maintaining their odour control systems, leading to pollution issues. A study by CSIR-NIIST also found that biofilters in the industrial units were not functioning properly. The board will be issuing closure notices to National Industries, Yeoman Bone and Allied Products, Nelkathir Bone Industries, and Biocon Organics Private Ltd. for not following the prescribed norms. Maintenance of biofilter units is crucial to ensure proper functioning and reduce pollution.
