The chances of former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam returning to the AIADMK and the party reviving ties with the BJP seem unlikely. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has made it clear that those expelled from the party will remain expelled. Panneerselvam criticized the current state of the party and its declining vote share. The AIADMK’s IT wing secretary also indicated that the party is not interested in re-establishing ties with the BJP for ideological and political reasons. The AIADMK is banking on growing anti-incumbency against the DMK government for the 2026 Assembly polls, but also acknowledges the need for a strong alliance to compete effectively.
