Centre’s tighter norms for fireworks worry Thrissur Pooram enthusiasts

The Union government has issued stricter regulations on fireworks for festival celebrations, focusing on safety measures. These regulations include maintaining distances from storage areas, spectators, hospitals, and schools, as well as requiring individuals to pass a safety examination. These changes were prompted by a previous fireworks accident in 2016. The regulations also detail requirements for event applications, material inspections, fire safety measures, emergency response plans, and more. There is concern about how these regulations will impact the Thrissur Pooram fireworks display, with some advocating for exemptions to be granted. The Communist Party of India has called for the government to reconsider these regulations to ensure a more enjoyable experience for festival attendees.
