Residents at the Government Sports Hostel fell ill after eating fish, prompting Minister Ramachandran Kadannappally to order that food must be procured only from licensed vendors. 20 residents were treated at the hospital with symptoms like headaches and burning sensations. Health and Food Safety officials inspected the hostel and fish market, collecting food samples for testing. District Medical Officer Dr. Piyush M. Namboothiripad and a team led by District Surveillance Officer K.C. Sachin visited the hostel to assess the situation. The order was issued on October 19 at a meeting held at the Kannur Municipal School.
