The New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) has halted work on the Kulai Fishing Harbour due to demands from traditional fishermen. The Port Authority has warned that the core material on the western arm of the Northern Breakwater could be displaced by natural elements if left unprotected. Despite concerns, the NMPA has clarified that neither the quality of work nor the authority should be blamed if damage occurs. The project, costing ₹147 crore, is being carried out on behalf of the State Fisheries Department. The NMPA is working to protect the core material and ensure the completion of the project within the stipulated timeframe.
