Phulpur Bypoll: Ally Chirag Paswan’s Move May End Up Costing the BJP and Helping Akhilesh Yadav

The Lok Janshakti Party, led by NDA ally Chirag Paswan, has decided to field a candidate from Uttar Pradesh’s Phulpur constituency, potentially impacting the electoral prospects of both the NDA and INDIA alliances. The upcoming by-election in Phulpur is expected to be a close contest between the ruling NDA and the opposition INDIA bloc, with the SP candidate Mohammad Mujtaba Siddiqui posing a challenge to the BJP. The constituency has a diverse electorate, with OBCs and the Patel community holding significant influence. Unemployment and development remain key concerns in the region. The BJP is yet to announce its candidate, but is likely to field an OBC representative. The last day for filing nominations is October 25, with the counting scheduled for November 23.
