The Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Palakkad has decided to field expelled Congress leader P. Sarin as an Independent candidate in the upcoming bypoll. This move is seen as a strategy to prevent the BJP from gaining votes from disgruntled Congress members. The party believes that Sarin can attract Congress voters to the Left Democratic Front. The State secretary emphasized the importance of this election as a reflection of Kerala’s voting behavior for future polls. Despite Sarin’s past hostility towards the CPI(M), the party sees no ideological inconsistency in welcoming him into the fold. The party has a history of working with independents and even former foes to further the Left cause.
