A 17-year-old Hawaii student named Kahiau Kawai was separated from his high school paddling group and spent nearly 12 hours treading water and clinging to his kayak off the coast of Hawaii. The U.S. Coast Guard launched a rescue operation and Kawai was eventually spotted and rescued by a good Samaritan off-duty lifeguard. Kawai was treated for injuries and hypothermia and is in serious but stable condition. His parents expressed gratitude to the rescue teams and everyone who prayed for his safe return. Kawai showed strength, resilience, and bravery during the ordeal.
